Alaina Mitchell
Hoping to obtain her degree in Nursing and unable to pay for the course herself, Alaina Mitchell visited the Louisiana Workforce Center in Houma, LA. At the time Alaina visited the center, she was currently unemployed and ready to enter her clinical phase of Nursing, working towards her Bachelor’s degree. She was eligible to receive some financial assistance from other sources, but was unsure of how she could continue her education without additional assistance. In January of 2019, she enrolled in the WIOA Adult program and received Occupational Skills Training Services. Because of the WIOA funding, she successfully walked across the stage at Nicholls State University Commencement Ceremony on December 16th, 2023 where she received her degree in Nursing. Upon the successful completion of the State Board Examination on January 22nd, 2024, she accepted a job offer and began working at Children’s Hospital on January 29, 2024 earning a substantial wage which allows her to support herself. When it came to defining her educational and career goals, she took advantage of the support and services that were provided through the WIOA funding. Alaina encourages others to take the opportunity to receive services that are offered. She thanks the Work Connection for the services
